Optimise your eCommerce business

How can I help?

Since leaving the world of Formula 1 and supercars with the McLaren Group, where at various times I led all ecommerce and web properties, I have immersed myself in the London ecommerce scene taking positions on the senior management team first with luxury jewellery retailer Astley Clarke and later with premium maternity & womenswear brands Isabella Oliver and Baukjen.

During this time I have also been providing ad-hoc consultancy services to clients in London, Berkshire, and Surrey but as demand for my help increased I found myself having to disappoint a number of potential clients and turn down some interesting projects due to the challenges of fitting freelance engagements around my permanent employment.

This became increasingly frustrating and so in early 2013 I made the tough decision to split amicably from my current employer and concentrate full time on helping a greater number of businesses optimise their ecommerce operations. This means I'm now available to assist you.

Some examples of the ways in which I have been able to bring my experience to bear on businesses I have been working with over the past couple of years include

  • Benchmarking channel & trading performance and recommending suppliers, process and team structures to maximise revenue
  • On-site conversion optimisation and online marketing channel optimisation
  • Site technical audit and opportunity evaluation. Google Analytics audit, configuration and training. On-site SEO audit
  • Benchmarking the performance and working relationships with third party suppliers, introducing partners with greater ROI
  • Supplier selection and RFP processes
  • Re-platform project management, cutover and migration planning
  • Recruitment of key personnel to the ecommerce team including Head of Ecommerce and CTO level
  • Site structure, UI, taxonomy and design workshops

I sincerely believe that working with me will provide your ecommerce team with a competitive advantage and I am prepared to put my money where my mouth is by offering free in depth website audits to a limited number of businesses. If you want to truly understand what I can bring to your business apply for your ecommerce website audit online now.

Still need convincing?

There are a number of ecommerce consultants in London and the South East and some of them are very very good. So why should you speak to me instead of them? Well firstly if I think your business would be better served by someone else in my network I will gladly introduce you so there is literally . Contact me to discuss your requirements and we can take it from there.

I am also happy to stand by my achievements which include

  • Developed a proftable ecommerce business from the ground up within a global brand
  • Successfully re-platforming multiple e-commerce websites
  • Implemented a single low cost technology solution which increased conversion by 60%
  • Delivered a 2000% uplift in natural search traffic
  • Uncovered technical, structural and process issues with the potential to increase demand sales by £200,000 per quarter
  • BT RetailWeek Awards 2012 finalist in the Internet Technology of the Year category

I meet very few people whose passion for both the commercial and technical aspects of ecommerce websites have remained in perfect equilibrium for so long and I relish the opportunity to make use of a decade and a half of solid ecommerce experience.

And finally I am able to provide some incredibly strong references to support my credentials.

So what are you waiting for?

If your business has an ecommerce website and you’ve made it this far why not apply for a free ecommerce site audit, contact me here, on Google+, on linkedin, or on twitter. Can you afford not to?

But we already have an agency that looks after our ecommerce website

You might wonder why you need my services when you are already paying an ecommerce agency to support your website. It’s a good question and you should perhaps start by looking at the service your agency provides and how your relationship has developed.

It’s also worth noting that some of this applies to businesses with internal development teams too.

In many cases you will be continuing to work with the company that initially built your website. You may be briefing in new feature requirements and change requests and they will often be doing a fantastic job of turning these around.

You probably have a support arrangement affording you a number of engineering hours in each billing cycle, SLA’s for resolving defects of varying severity, infrastructure monitoring and quarterly review meetings to discuss the roadmap (i.e. how much work they can expect from your business this quarter).

This could be working very well and I’m certainly not pitching competitively against ecommerce development agencies and if it ain’t broke why fix it? You will get more value from me in other areas.

Sadly over time situations can develop where cracks start to form in your agency relationship – you may feel that they have you locked in and are simply not proactive enough, they may not be providing the expertise that you think they should, you may find that managing the relationship is taking more energy than previously and you find yourself debating scope, deliverables, and sign-off on new functionality.

In these cases I can absolutely assist by bridging the gap, separating the myths from the truths, overcoming issues of perception from both sides and ensuring that the responsibilities from both sides are clear. As someone who has a deep understanding of both commercial and technical disciplines I am almost uniquely placed to build and restore these relationships.

From the agency side you may be seen as difficult, inexperienced and unable to brief correctly, inflexible, prone to scope creep, argumentative, and expecting something for nothing. Internally they may be describing you as "clueless" or a "client from hell" amongst other things. Even if there is a professional face any negativity around the relationship will impact the quality of the solution offered.

Essentially in order to optimise your ecommerce performance I need a strong, positive, responsive development team who are aligned correctly with the needs of the business. If you already have this in place brilliant but if there are issues from either side of the relationship then I will find them and ensure that they are addressed.
